Carboniste 2021 Sparkling Albariño

The Wine: Gomes Vineyard has deep, rich soil, well fed from the Sacramento River. It is dry farmed without cultivation and is transitioning to organic farming certification. Albariño grapes give this light and fresh sparkling wine notes of tart berries and stonefruit, making it the perfect aperitif wine. 12% alc.

The Winemaker: Jacqueline and Dan Person focus on a new style of sparkling wine coming from California, allowing the ample bright fruit in the wines to flourish by keeping things light. They opt for a more relaxed style of sparkling wine meant for everyday enjoyment, using grape varieties like Albariño and Pinot Grigio in their wines.

The Wine: A layered and vibrant cool-climate sparkling composed of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The wine showcases the lean, mineral driven quality of coastal Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and is rounded out by the more generous Pinot Meunier fruit character. 11.8% alc.

The Winemaker: Josh Hammerling began working in cellars, vineyards and tasting rooms in Washington State in 2014 before developing a fascination with sparkling wine and moving to California to work for Broc Cellars and Donkey and Goat in 2017. Hammerling wines was founded in 2018 with the goal of exploring cool-climate California vineyards along the coast through the lens of low-intervention sparkling. He sources fruit from distinctive, responsibly farmed vineyards.

The Wine:A refreshing and vibrant sparkling of Pinot Noir, with a palate of strawberry fruit and chalky minerality lifted on a hearty mousse. From the Topotero Vineyard, located in Avila Beach, San Luis Obispo County. The vineyard is farmed by Ben Taylor using organic practices on his family’s home ranch just over a mile from the Pacific Ocean. 11.5% alc.

The Winemaker: Scar of the Sea was established in 2012 and is owned & operated by Mikey & Gina Giugni in San Luis Obispo, California. They focus on working with farmers who are instrumental in farming for the future and making wines with as little intervention as possible. Their wines are made with the intention to tell a story of where they come from, the people who farm them, and reflect each vintage under the California sun.
