Muddled cherry, pomegranate, black raspberry and anise.
100% whole cluster, spontaneous fermentation. A light pigeage was followed by gentle pumpovers to optimize extraction. Additions focused on yeast nutrients as they were needed; maceration was a little less than two weeks. After 14 months in neutral French oak, the wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Grenache was sourced from a small hillside vineyard in Sonoma County that was planted in 2010 near the base of the Mayacamas Mountains. The vines are head trained and planted 3’x5’. Because the block is “en haut” (on the upper slope), it benefits from a coastal marine layer which produces a significant diurnal shift in temperature, often over 40°F during the growing season. Vineyard practices biodynamic farming and vines are grown in metavolcanic rock soils.
