Rich, deep and beautifully layered, this wine offers up a host of dark red/purplish fruit along with floral, savory and spice accents that add complexity. Vibrant and nuanced, this Mataro has so much to offer.
Fermentation was 100% whole cluster and spontaneous for both primary and malolactic. Light foot treading during maceration was followed by a series of gentle pumpovers over the course of fermentation. Additions focused solely on nutrients as they were needed. The wine was pressed off into neutral Burgundy barriques after two weeks on skins. Following fourteen months in barrel sur lie, the wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Sourced from vines planted before Prohibition in the beach like Delhi Blow Sand of Contra Costa County. Mataro block, which is own rooted and dry farmed, also includes some interplanted Carignane and sits atop a gentle knoll facing Mount Diablo. Morgan Twain Peterson and his team at Bedrock Wine Co. have been farming the vineyard organically since 2014.
