Bright, savory and delineated, all the elements are so balanced. There’s plenty of Chalone intensity, and yet the wine remains wonderfully light on its feet. Crushed rocks, lemon peel, white flowers, green pear and slate build into the elegant, nuanced finish.
Fermentation was 100% whole cluster and spontaneous for both primary and malolactic. Gentle pumpovers were used to optimize extraction. Aged 14 months sur lie in used 228L French Oak barriques.
From vines planted in 1919 by Lucius Charles Tramm in a mix of limestone, granite, and volcanic material in the Gabilan Mountains.
