This red is dark-fruited with chewy mineral tannin and an elevated finish.

Variety: 100% Mondeuse
Vineyard: Rorick Vineyard
Location: Calaveras County, CA
Alcohol: 12.63%
Production: 125 cases

Dark in color with face-ripping tannins, aromatics of marijuana, turned loam, black licorice and sandalwood incense. Despite the heavy-vibes, its light in body like licking a watermelon rind. High wire acidity is laced with manzanita, blue and black fruit preserves freshened with menthol and splashed with soy sauce on a backbone of iron, metal and blood.

Fruit was hand-picked and fermented in a single open-top vessel with 100% stem inclusion. The must received pigeage and/or punchdowns twice daily; fermentation lasted 14 days at which time the wine was pressed down to a single 500L neutral oak puncheon. Wine was racked off its lees at 8 months and saw a total of 13 months elevage. Bottled unfined & unfiltered.

Grown on the Rorick estate vineyard in Calaveras County, on soils comprised of a layer of schist over dolomite-rich limestone. Elevation of the vineyard is 2000. The Mondeuse vines in the Vineyard are a mix of clones taken from both the Lagier-Meredith Vineyard on Napa’s Mt. Veeder as well as from Bien Nacido Vineyards in Santa Maria Valley.
