Lúuma 2020 Sauvignon Blanc Hillside
Johan Vineyards 2013 Blaüfrankisch Estate
The Wine: Made from 100% Blaüfrankisch grapes, this wine has an iron minerality and bold acidity with a darker fruit profile while still remaining a buoyant and light-bodied red. Made by all biodynamic certified, estate-grown grapes. Fruit was destemmed and fermented before aging for 18 months in French oak barrels. 11.9% Alc.
The Winery: Johan Vineyards is located in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Led by Morgan beck, their goal is to create a self-sustained holistic farm system to produce wines that are alive and capable of evolving over many years. Johan maintains over 30 acres as a biodiversity preserve.
Matthiasson 2021 Rosé
The Wine: A light and crisp Grenache dominant blended rosé with focused citrus flavor, dried herbs and tangy acidity. A super fresh wine with texture and refreshing tannins to balance. Whole cluster pressed, fermented and aged ‘sur lees’ in stainless steel barrels. All fruit was organically farmed. 11.5% Alc.
A Bit About The Winery: For Steve and Jill Matthiasson, winemaking is a natural extension of farming. They began Matthiasson Wines in 2003, after working for many years in the sustainable agriculture and local food movement. Their wines are classical expressions of different grape varieties, some well-known and some rare.
Lúuma 2020 Sauvignon Blanc Hillside
The Wine: There’s a racy note of lime zest under the notes of pear and apple here. Feels like late summer in a glass on the back patio. Foot crushed, soaked on skins overnight, pressed to tank and put in barrel for native primary and malolactic fermentation and aged in neutral French oak barrels before being unfined & unfiltered. 11.8% Alc.
The Winery: Lúuma started in 2016 as a joint project between the Mariani brothers of Scribe Winery and Matthew Plympton and Tom Hunter of Revel Wine. In bottlings released since then, Revel Wine has worked with John Harley & AJ Filipelli of INIZI Wines among others, with this Sauvignon Blanc being made by Alex Pomerantz of Subject to Change Wine. All of the wines in the lineup are made from organically grown grapes with minimal additions and manipulations with the goal of offering bright, honest and food friendly wines at an affordable price.
