A full-bodied, wild-fermented Marquette with layers of dark fruit and structured tannins.

Variety: 100% Marquette
Vineyards: McCabe’s Brook & Mt. Philo
Location: Shelburne & Charlotte VT
Alcohol: 15.5%
Production: 323 cases

Full-bodied and a little funky, showcasing the best parts of wild fermentation. Layered dark fruit on the nose with baking spices and fresh herbs like terragon. The palate has well-balanced and structured tannins with notes of black pepper and leather with a long, warming finish.

10% whole cluster with additional stems added back. Maceration lasted 86 days, and must was pressed and racked into oak barrels within 24 hours. Malolactic fermentation was induced but not completed. Wine aged sur lie in barrels of various ages for a total of 8 months. Wine settled in stainless steel tank for an additional 2 months before being bottled unfined & unfiltered.

Marquette is grown on two of Iapetus’ three vineyard sites, planted in 2008 at McCabe’s Brook and in 2010 at My. Philo. Both sites have a slightly western aspect and north-south row orientation which allow for maximum sunlight and exposure to prevailing winds. Soils are deep, well drained, sandy/stony loams derived from limestone, calcareous shale, schist, and quartzite and on sandy delta, beaches and terraces.
