Equally fruity and earthy, with crunchy red plum, blackberry, tar, and black pepper. It has gorgeous tannins and texture, but a lightless across the palate that is rare for this blend.
Wine was fermented 100% whole cluster with twice daily manual punch downs. Pressed after approximately two weeks of fermentation on the skins and aged in neutral barrels for 10 months. Fermented with native yeast with only minimal SO2 added at bottling. Unfined & unfiltered.
The organically farmed Helen’s Gate Vineyard sits on an east-facing hill along Whitehall Land in the Rutherford District of Napa Valley. The vines were planted in 2009. The vineyard is managed organically and all farming is done by the Matthiassons by hand. The vines are surrounded by riotous plantings of flowers and fruit trees.
