Varieties: Chardonnay, Vermentino, Verdelho
Location: Calaveras County, CA
Alcohol: 12.8%
Composed primarily of Chardonnay, Vermentino, and Verdelho, the wine shows amazing aromatic complexity and textural presence, as well as an electric streak of natural acidity running through its heart.
Fruit was hand-picked. Verdelho and Vermentino were foot-trod before pressing and fermented in open top vessels; the Chardonnay was whole cluster pressed and fermented in stainless steel. The individual lots were racked and blended together; they remained in a combination of stainless steel and neutral 500L puncheon until being bottled unfined and unfiltered. As with all Forlorn Hope wines, no new oak is utilized, and nothing was added to the must or wine with the exception of minimal effective SO2.
Grown on the Rorick Heritage Vineyard in Calaveras County at 2000’ elevation, featuring soils comprised of a layer of schist over dolomite-rich limestone.
