Johan Vineyards 2014 Skin Ferment Pinot Gris 'Drueskall'
Subject to Change 2019 Skin Contact Sauvignon Blanc 'Disco!'
Two Shepherds 2020 Skin Ferment Vermentino & Picpoul 'Centime'

Johan Vineyards 2014 Skin Ferment Pinot Gris 'Drueskall'

The Wine: Made from 100% Demeter certified Biodynamic Pinot Gris. Duration of skin contact ranges from 17 to 33 days. Wine is spontaneously fermented and aged 6 months in neutral French oak barrels, undergoing partial malolactic fermentation. Puckering tannins and aromas and flavors of peach pits, ripe persimmons, orange peel and home-made bitters. 13.5% alc.

The Winery: Johan Vineyards is located in Oregon’s Willamette Valley on an 85-acre certified Biodynamic Estate vineyard. Their goal is to create a self-sustained holistic farm system and wines that reflect that in their expression. The team consists of an eclectic group of winegrowers led by head winemaker Morgan Beck. They hold an openness to experimentation as well as a long-term view both in the vineyard and in the cellar, nurturing a healthy, diverse microbial system in their soil and producing wines that are alive and capable of evolving over many years.

Subject to Change 2019 Skin Contact Sauvignon Blanc 'Disco!'

The Wine: Made from a blend of 85% Sauvignon Blanc and 15% Semillon is like a tropical fruit party with grit and grip. Fruit is coming from certified organic and sustainable Randle Hill Vineyard in southern Mendocino County. Two-thirds of the fruit is foot crushed and pressed to tank then racked to neutral barrels for fermentation and 7 month elevage. The other third undergoes carbonic maceration for 2 weeks before being pressed, fermented and raised in a stainless tank for 7 months. 12.8% alc.

The Winery: Subject to Change was founded in 2017 by Alex Pomerantz-inspired by a true love for the intersection of California's unique agricultural landscape, natural wine, and the many people and experiences that come along with those arenas. Better agriculture is at the forefront of the company's mission. All of their wines are single vineyard expressions, and they aim to represent those people and places through the energy and transparency in the wines, which can range from chuggable and fresh to wines that can evolve and age for years to come. They don't add or subtract anything in the cellar, as the wines are raw expressions of the responsibly-farmed vineyards from which they come.

Two Shepherds 2020 Skin Ferment Vermentino & Picpoul 'Centime'

The Wine: Made from a blend of 20% Vermentino and 20% Picpoul from the certified organic, alluvial, gravelly soils of Windmill Vineyard in Yolo County. Grapes are crushed and left to ferment on the skins for 12 days in an open-top container, until primary fermentation was completed via native yeast. Wine was then very lightly hand pressed into a neutral French oak barrel where it aged for 10 months, and completed malolactic fermentation. Racked twice then bottled. Full of citrus peel, ginger and soft tannins with fleshy texture and vibrant acidity. 11.5% alc.

The Winery:

William and Karen of Two Shepherds released their first vintage of all Rhône varieties in 2010, and have since expanded to include more obscure varieties and skin fermented wines. They work with organic, biodynamic and sustainable vineyards throughout Northern California to create surprising and distinct wines. As the name suggests, they find joy in the shepherding of unusual grapes, as well as the array of farm life present in their vineyard.
