A tart sparkling orange with cider-like notes made from Grenache Blanc and skin-fermented Picpoul.
Varieties: 65% Picpoul, 35% Grenache Blanc
Vineyards: Windmill Vineyard, Catie’s Corner
Location: Dunnigan Hills, Yolo County, CA
Alcohol: 10.5%
Production: 600 cases
The orange wine portion is prominent, providing a bit of color, as well as a more unique, intense flavor than a sparkling white. Slightly tart, a slight cider-like note. Serve chilled, pairs well with ceviche and sushi, or the beach.
30% skin fermented Picpoul spent 8 months in neutral barrel, is blended with 30% Picpoul and 35% Grenache Blanc, each fermented and aged 8 months in stainless steel. The wines are blended, then chilled and slowly micro carbonated in a brite tank for 5 days to add texture before canning.
Picpoul is from the Windmill Vineyard, a large ranch in Dunnigan Hills, Yolo County, CA planted on alluvial, gravelly soils and is certified organic. Grenache Blanc is from Catie’s corner in the Russian River Valley, the first planting of this variety in the AVA.
