Soft and supple, the wine tastes like wild strawberry, violet, hibiscus, savory sage, cassis, and boysenberry. It’s a pure joyful expression of old-vine, California Zin.

Hand-picked and destemmed into stainless tank. Fermentation was allowed to happen naturally with native yeast. When fermentation was complete, the grapes were pressed into neutral French oak where it went through malolactic. Bottled after 12 months.

The Mattern vineyard is in the Talmage Bench area of Mendocino. It was planted in the 1930s on gravelly loam soil. The old vines are both head-trained and dry-farmed by the Mattern family who live on the property. The vineyard is certified CCOF Organic and Demeter Biodynamic.
