Lady of the Sunshine 2021 Sauvignon Blanc/Chardonnay ‘Chevey’
Land of Saints 2022 Rosé
La Garagista 2021 Marquette “In a Dark Country Sky’

Lady of the Sunshine 2021 Sauvignon Blanc/Chardonnay ‘Chevey’

The Wine: A blend of 60% Sauvignon Blanc and 40% Chardonnay, this wine is inspired by the traditional white blend of the Cheverny region within the Loire Valley. Farmed organically on the southwest side of Edna Valley on marimel sandy clay loam soils from vines planted in 1991. Grapes were foot tread to soak on skins overnight, then fermented with native yeast in neutral French oak barrels before aging on lees for 7 months. The Sauvignon Blanc went through full malolactic fermentation while the Chardonnay went through partial. Notes of candied kumquats, lemon verbena and citrus meringue. 12.5% alc.

The Winemaker: Gina Guigni grew up in the Sierra Foothills on her parents 90-acre biodynamic ranch, Narrow Gate Vineyards. She studied winemaking at California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo, after which she spent several years traveling to various wineries to hone her skills. After working in Beaujolais for the 2015 vintage and spending the first 6 months of 2016 in a vineyard and winery on the South Island of New Zealand, she returned to the U.S. to work at wineries in both Willamette and Napa Valley. Gina started Lady of the Sunshine in 2017 with a focus on regenerative, organic and biodynamic farming in pursuit of making natural wines that reflect the purity of the place they come from. Since taking over farming of the 6.5 acre Chene Vineyard in the Edna Valley appellation on the Central Coast, which she considers to be the winery’s home vineyard, it earned Demeter biodynamic certification in 2020 and Lady of the Sunshine earned winery Demeter certification in 2021. Together, Gina and her husband, Mikey run Scar of the Sea and Lady of the Sunshine out of their winery in San Luis Obispo, CA.

Land of Saints 2022 Rosé

The Wine: Made from a 50/50 blend of Mourvédre and Grenache, the two varietals were harvested and vinified together and completed a long, slow, cool primary fermentation to retain aromatics. Upon completion of primary, the wine aged for a further 11 weeks on the lees before bottling. Notes of strawberry, fresh peach and citrus peel. 12.9% alc.

The Winemaker: Angela Osborne is a New Zealand born winemaker. Her dream of making Grenache brought her to California in 2006, and she sourced her first Grenache fruit from the Santa Barbara Highlands Vineyard in 2007. A Tribute to Grace is her Grenache-focused label and a tribute to her late grandmother, Grace. Her winemaking intention is to stay as close to nature as humanly possible. Land of Saints is a collaboration with Jason Osborne and Manuel Cuevas with those same ideals in mind. The three are informed by their diverse roots coupled with their collective love for California and more specifically, their love for the vinous expressions of Santa Barbara County. Land of Saints wines symbolize their cultures and the wines that give their sense of place.

La Garagista 2021 Marquette ‘In a Dark Country Sky’

The Wine: 100% Marquette, fermented whole cluster in glass demijohn. Final élevage in flextank and demijohns. Zero/zero. This alpine wine is unfined & unfiltered. Bright, fruity and spicy. Young with vibrant acidity, best slightly chilled. 12% alc.

The Winemaker: Dierdre Heekin is a writer, designer, restauranteur and winemaker based in Vermont. Dierdre and her husband, Caleb Barber founded La Garagista in 2011, choosing to plant European-American hybrids like La Crescent, Marquette, and Frontenac Gris that are hearty enough to survive Vermont’s harsh winters and farm them biodynamically. Instead of being discouraged by the suppression of the wines by the cold climate, Dierdre draws inspiration from similar climates like Austria, Germany and Northern Italy, and angles for a style that’s light-bodied, savory, and extremely food friendly. Her winemaking approach is simple; fruit is hand-harvested and food-tread, and fermentation starts naturally with ambient yeasts. Wines are aged in glass demijohn or old French oak to preserve their elegance and freshness.
