Âmevive 2021 Grenache Blanc
Land of Saints 2021 Carbonic Pinot Noir
Southold 2019 Dolcetto ‘Love Just Because’

Âmevive 2021 Grenache Blanc

The Wine: Coming from Buttonwood Vineyard in Los Olivos District AVA. Vines were planted in the early 80s and is now farmed organically on alluvial floodplain soils. Wine was pressed directly and racked to neutral French Oak barrels for fermentation on native yeast, resting on lees until a month before bottling. Delicate, salty, zesty, refreshing like a spring creek high up in the mountains. 12.5% alc.

The Winemaker: Alice Anderson makes natural wines for the classic palate. After studying viticulture and oenology at Cal Poly, she spent a pruning season in Central Otago, New Zealand before spending two years working in the Northern Rhône, where she adopted the seamless connection between farming and winemaking indicative of the region. Upon returning to California, Alice worked with Justin Willett at Tyler Winery and Angela Osborne at A Tribute To Grace, now working with Graham Tatomer. She and her partner comprise Âmevive Winery, and farm the 10 acre historic Ibarra-Young Vineyard in Los Olivos District AVA in Santa Barbara County. Focusing mostly on Northern Rhône varieties, they farm using biodynamic and regenerative organic practices, actively rotating chickens, sheep and ducks throughout the vineyard, and add nothing to the wines but occasionally minimal sulfur.

Land of Saints 2021 Carbonic Pinot Noir

The Wine: Made from 100% Pinot Noir, whole cluster fermented with traditional carbonic maceration, using native yeast and natural CO2. Following fermentation, wine spends 10 weeks in stainless steel before bottling. Well-structured with notes of tart cranberry, wild strawberry and savory herbs and minerality with integrated acidity. 12.5% alc.

The Winemaker: Angela Osborne is a New Zealand born winemaker. Her dream of making Grenache brought her to California in 2006, and she sourced her first Grenache fruit from the Santa Barbara Highlands Vineyard in 2007. A Tribute to Grace is her Grenache-focused label and a tribute to her late grandmother, Grace. Her winemaking intention is to stay as close to nature as humanly possible. Land of Saints is a collaboration with Jason Osborne and Manuel Cuevas with those same ideals in mind. The three are informed by their diverse roots coupled with their collective love for California and more specifically, their love for the vinous expressions of Santa Barbara County. Land of Saints wines symbolize their cultures and the wines that give their sense of place.

Southold 2019 Dolcetto ‘Love Just Because’

The Wine: Made from 100% Dolcetto, harvested in two picks; the first was whole cluster fermented in macrobins and the second was destemmed and fermented in concrete. Half aged in concrete and the other half in neutral French oak barrels. This wine has feral, flinty, meaty aromatics and big red fruit. 13.1% alc.

The Winemaker:

Adrienne Ballou grew up in Austin, Texas. She left her pursuit of a Chemistry degree at the University of Texas to work her first harvest in Walla Walla in 2009, where she fell in love with Washington wine. Adrienne received her B.S. in Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis before heading to Burgundy to stage at Domaine Antonin Guyon under a fellowship from the Chevaliers du Tastevin before returning to the states. After 3 years developing the fruit re-fermentation program at Jester King Brewery, she worked another harvest in Australia before returning to Texas. Adrienne spent time as the assistant winemaker at both Lewis Wines and Calais Winery prior to her current position as a winemaker for Southold Farm and Cellar, where she works to strike a balance both in the wines and in the approach, thoughtfully making unique wines that are delicious to drink. She also produces her own label of wines called Lightsome Wines, focused on the production of thoughtful wines that are expressive of vineyard sites and vintage, reflecting a low-intervention approach in the winery.
